Holland is not The official name of our country, North and South Holland are only 2 of 12 provinces. In the other provinces, the word Hollander is only used to refer to the inhabitants of North and South Holland. People from the other 10 provinces usually do not appreciate being called Hollander.
Der offizielle und auch in der Umgangssprache übliche niederländische Name des Landes lautet Nederland, während im Standarddeutschen der Landesname Niederlande heißt und umgangssprachlich zumeist als Holland benannt wird.Der Name Holland bezieht sich eigentlich nur auf die provinzen Nord und Süd Holland. Niederländer, die nicht aus der Region Holland stammen, hegen meist eine gewisse Abneigung gegenüber der Bezeichnung Holland für die Niederlande und Holländer für den Niederländer.
