What a pleasant surprise! Hearing our QSO was fascinating and brought back pleasant memories of our chat. It must be nice being able to record QSO's. I did it many years ago but no longer have my recorder in operation. At 80 years I try to keep my operation as simply as possible to enjoy ham radio and not to worry about to many gadgets to operate. Should we ever return to PA country, I will let you know. It would be good to have a face to face QSO. Thanks again and all best wishes. 73 David

Hello Gerald! Very nice and thank you very much. I don t think my CW was too good this time. Problem is while driving at 100 km/h everything gets very sensitive to mechanical chocks etc.. Hello dear Gerald and thank you so much for the very interesting QSO that we had together. I was very pleased to receive your mail with the recording of our contact, which is a very nice souvenir for me. Although I am relatively a newcomer in the Ham Radio society, I have been long following the hobby, as one of my sons, Yannis has been a ham for the last 9 years. I am a retired Electronics Engineer and from the old days very active with D.I.Y. Tube Amplifier projects. Therefore I enjoy homebrew constructions and I am especially attracted by QRP operation both on Voice and Digital modes. Currently I am building a 20 meter QRP SSB transceiver, trying to implement new technology such as Digital Frequency Synthesis, but that is not a weekend's project and needs a lot of patience. I have a 220' Doublet arranged in a peculiar manner that I came up with; does an exceptional job. Now over 100 countries contacted; 78 confirmed and waiting on the last few to come in the mail to apply for the DXCC. Something new everyday in Amateur Radio to look forward to. This was a very special contact because the HF bands are normally dead in the middle of winter at night in South Africa. When I saw the SF 185, I decided to switch the rig on & what a surprise to hear you & the 20m band, wide open. !! Thank you for the recording which proved that it was for real & a very rare contact.!! You have one of the most interesting websites, beautiful photos, with a super DOG & FB shack. Your signal & audio quality was perfect & I was impressed with your command of the English language & I look forward to another QSO with you. Hi Gerald, Many thanks for the recording - it is really interesting to hear the quality of the reception - it was a nice clear call - probably helped more by your equipment than mine :) I will be taking my intermediate exam later this month so i can turn the power up a bit - I will also explore the possibility of getting a slightly better antenna - i am currently using a 6m vertical from Snowdonia Radio Company (SRC X80) which does ok but i am sure i'd get better reception with a simple wire set up. The issue is hiding the antenna from the wife who is rather fussy about me cluttering up the garden! I'll try to get a bit more practice on HF so may hear you on air again soon. Hi Gerald, I am listening to you this morning at 1933utc on 7150.0 and your 200w and dipole 10 mtrs high is making it here clearly at 55. I did call you with my 400w and 80m long double zepp at 30m high, but no reply. I could also hear some of the stations you were working, but they are not as strong as you, so you are doing very well for your small antenna and medium power. My sun rise is in about 2 hours time and I am up early today, just looking around on the bands. I have some family in the Netherlands, living in Wierden, which near Almelo, so I am always happy to communicate with PA stations. Cheerio, from Cockatoo, which is very small town and is about 50km east of Melbourne.

I have had an 1980's ft 101 zd mk1,but i just sell it to an om here in italy.Now i have just 3 hf rigs:Kenwood ts180s lineup,a kenwood ts50s and the.."little" icom ic703plus for hf qrp.Next coming summer i would change my hf antennas into a 40/80 alpha delta dxdd wire dipole,and a 10 to 20 mosley ta32jrn 2 elemnts yagi.Now i have lot of wire antennas. 73's ger and grazie per il contatto,ciao. Very nice to work you this morning on twenty meters through the qrn & qsb. Hope to CUAGN when bands are better. Antenna here is 40 meter folded dipole with movable feedpoint as in a "clothes line".
